I only want to visit Scotland for 4 days. I work in Indonesia. My UK visa is a visitor visa which is valid only 6 months.

You do not need a visa to Scotland if you have a UK visa. The reason? Scotland is part of the United Kingdom or UK. Aris

Can a US worker who works internationally, and pays no US taxes (foriegn only), contribute to a Roth IRA

Can a US worker who works internationally, and pays no US taxes (foriegn only), contribute to a Roth IRA?
As stated above. I work in Indonesia and pay all my taxes there, I pay no taxes to the US government, and would like to open an IRA. Can I do this?

Yikes!! A United States citizen working in a foreign country is not exempt from paying US income taxes. The US has tax treaties with most nations (Indonesia included). the way this works is that you must pay taxes in the country you are living and working in. After you pay your taxes in your host country you will receive an offsetting tax credit on your US tax return. If you opened up a Roth Ira without reporting income in the US you could find yourself in big trouble. If you filed your proper tax returns in the U.S. then there would be absolutely no problem with opening up a Roth. I think you should get hold of a qualified tax professional to help you. Someone who is an EA (Enrolled Agent) would be good. If this is your first year earning money abroad this will not be a big deal. Just file a return for 2008 with Uncle Sam and claim the credit for foreign taxes paid. If you have been doing this for many years, it could become a quagmire that is difficult to extricate yourself from. If this has been going on for a while than do not under any circumstances open a Roth until your taxes are up to date, This will be a huge red flag to the IRS. You must show earned income to open one. EDIT more info here: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/international/article/0,,id=169675,00.html

Another Tsunami in Indonesia. Is this the work of God or Allah

Another Tsunami in Indonesia. Is this the work of God or Allah?
Is this the work of God or Allah to punish the muslims for the violence and terrorism in the world? Will there be more natural disasters in this area of the world to punish the muslims? Also, if Allah exists, why has he/she not protected the muslims from death? Especially in the last Tsunami (the big one) where thousands of muslims died.

It is the work of the earth. No deity involved.
2 :
it's the work of earthquakes. DUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh..
3 :
God and Allah are imaginary concepts.
4 :
humans have done this indirectly
5 :
its the work of mother nature...
6 :
God does everything to punish those and to bless those, Allah doesn't exist, that is why they haven't been protected, God is punishing them... but it is horrible to see so many people die, becuase most of them are lost... and they had so many chances before... but it's too late now.
7 :
i AM! i AM YESHUA! i AM! RUN!
8 :
I think God and Allah are the same Deity. (They are both God's of Abraham). Its considered blasphemy to attempt to understand how/why God works. Besides, its not like you could know for sure.
9 :
Theres no God but Allah. thats all.....He is omnipotent...He is the All powerful and He is the absolute Creator......
10 :
It's the work of chance and tectonic plates.... there is no god or allah.
11 :
That can be a hard question to answer , since it can go both way's. if in fact it was an Earthquake..it could have been caused by nature and plate tectonics. But then again someone will say that it was God that done it .The thing that pisses me off the most, is that why do people think God has to do with everything bad that happens? In case people forgot, there is a Devil too that make things happen too. Even the Bible say's he or (Lucifer) was cast out of heaven, and was put on the earth.
12 :
Allah is impotent because she is a false god which originated with the pagan moon god. Muhammed borrowed that god from the many pagan religions who worshipped the moon. Why do you think the Muslims use the crescent moon in all their symbols for Allah? Now you know!
13 :
Well, if your question is whether God or Allah did it, well, both terms come from the God of Abraham, so they're technically the same person, right, even if the two sides of the world believe different things about Him.. Then the question as to whether it was a punishment. It's hard to say. There hasn't been any revelation to that respect that I know of, and I don't know enough about prophesies to say if it was predicted or not.
14 :
This is like saying "if God loves me why do I have to die" At this point in my life I am not ready for death and prepared to die. HOWEVER who wants to spend FOREVER on Earth? Not me that is for sure. I will be thankful when God decides to bring me home to him. Yes it is sad for us here on Earth and us left behind by our loved ones to understand this. And to grasp the concept of why people are taken from us. But remember there are better places than here. And death-even tragic unexpected death-is not a bad thing.
15 :
You idiots. God and Allah are the same diety. It's like saying God and el Dios are different, one is the english God and one is the spanish one. Allah is just the arabic word ford God. So for you Christians or Jews or whatever that say Allah doesn't exist, you're saying that God (your own God since Muslims believe in the same God as you) doesn't exist. You might say it's not the same God but fact is, they say it is, therefore they are believing in the same God as you whether you like it or not. And it doesn't matter who dies. Muslims aren't supposed to be afraid of death. Whatever happens is God's will, or so they say. So this could be a punishment for some, and the others could just be collateral dammage, so to speak. So, was God or Allah trying to punish New Orleans for the horrible things going on in that city? Maybe God was tired for all the promiscuity and drunkenness during Mardi Gras, or the 14 year old girls having sex with grown men. To the person who said the crescent moon: you are wrong. There is actually another reason behind it, and I will find the source to prove it later, I just have to go workout and get work done right now. I will be back later though if this is still open.
16 :
I believe the deity you are searching for is called Poseidon.
17 :
I am not Muslim but i feel the same hurt and pain as you whenever innocent people die, irregardless of their religion or race. And i believe strongly too we should all respect's each other God and help out each other, especially in difficult and sensitive times like this. Do not doubt your God/Allah in times of troubled times. Hold on strong to your faith and your God/Allah. It is through troubled times, your faith in God/Allah is tested. God/Allah is forever forgiving and will never punish anyone by any means. Though God/Allah is all powerful and almighty, he did not promise us that life on earth is smooth-sailing or that he would protect us from all adversities and trials. But he did promise us that in times of doubt, there will be FAITH; in times of despair, there will be HOPE; in times of trouble, there will be CHARITY and in times of hate, there will be LOVE. Through the last tsunami, all brothers on earth band together to help in whatever way we can. And this tsunami will be the same too!

Conservatives- What do you think of people in Indonesia working in sweatshops making a dollar a day

Conservatives- What do you think of people in Indonesia working in sweatshops making a dollar a day?
Should there be government regulation regarding inhumane treatment of overseas workers by American Companies? Should there be government regulation regarding toxic wastes being poured into our oceans? I'm a conservative and I don't believe that global warming exists (except during the summer), but does global warming really have to exist for people to care about their environment? Badgerbadger- I really don't get it. They say we Americans don't want the jobs? The funny thing is that our employment rates are through the roof. Gotta love it. Uncle Benito, Yea but these are American companies. The Canadian companies can go screw themselves. But then, if the USA penalized them for it, the American Companies won't be able to compete. Lib Nemesis- Lol I didn't mean to choose Obama's old home country. Just a coincidence. Good call.

We keep hearing from Libs that Americans wouldn't take jobs like that. What would those Indonesians be doing otherwise? ADDENDUM - Sure they do. It's their justification for supporting illegal immigration. Just listen to Colbert's inane testimony to Congress for a taste. If we supposedly won't take farming or cleaning jobs, what the heck would make them think we'd take tedious textile jobs?
2 :
They should be jobs for the American people. I don't care if those corporations would make less money. It would highly improve the economy if they would bring those jobs back to the states.
3 :
What do I think of it? I'm appalled! Surely, the job can be done by even poorer people in places like Burkina Faso for 50 cents! Seriously though, I disagree with the entire concept of extraterritoriality. Our legal jurisdiction ends at our borders.
4 :
It depends. If those jobs are the best in their homelands, wouldn't you think that their country has failed them, even if they are being unfairly exploited in either direction?
5 :
It makes me realize that if the progressives get their way we will see that right here in America. When the government regulates its people and businesses to death they kill jobs and then we can't even get paid a decent wage because the government hoards all the money. Coming soon to America!
6 :
im a conservative and if those countries governments did the right thing they would not allow this to happen to their citizens . if they let it happen it will happen as far as global warming goes we as americans need to care about the environment ,yes but to blame the u.s. on it is a different story climate change goes up and down through out the history of the world and if someone thinks that they are going to profit from blaming on the u.s. sorry but you are not going to convince me that the u.s. is the blame for all of the worlds problems ..

Reminds me of Obama's half brother

Indonesia? What about the folks working in sweat shops here in America? What about them? The problem is worldwide. How did we leap from sweat shops to global warning? Two very different issues - pollution and labor. Both are in need of attention. Both very dire.
9 :
My mother earned 65 cents an hour in 1954 working in a factory in the United States. The cost of living was much less then just like it is in these developing countries. It took years before the government made laws here concerning safety, child labor, equal pay, etc. The safety laws came with bad accidents. Some factories used to lock the doors so the workers couldn't leave without the supervisor letting them out. A fire broke out in a clothing factory and many died because they couldn't get out. That's when it became a law to have fire exits. Did you ever see how the Empire State Building was built. Many died building it. People used to have their children work as well as the adults because it was the only way they could afford to live. As wages improved, child labor became illegal. As we continued to industrialize, more workers were needed so benefits became necessary to attract good labor. Laws changed for 40 hour weeks, overtime, etc. Equal pay is relatively recent. Developing countries are just that. They are developing just like the United States did. I cringe at the thought of toxic waste being dumped in the oceans and waterways. The recent oil spill literally made me sick. I do not agree with man made global warming but I do recognize that our climate is changing. I also believe it happened before because so many artifacts are being found under the melting glaciers. People lived and farmed in Greenland at one time. It could be we are headed into an ice age but I don't believe that is being caused by C02 emissions. I believe the earth moves in cycles. If we are going into an ice age, its for sure that windmills and solar panels aren't going to be the right kind of energy for survival.

A lot of people don't really know how the economy works. Bringing "our" jobs back here is not going to solve the economic crisis. I hate how everyone cries more government regulation. They might as well just say tax me more cause that is what is going to happen. And these "sweatshops" are filled with people who voluntarily go there in order to feed their families. If there was a better option, don't you think they'd take it? If Americans want the jobs to come back to this country, then they have to make sacrifices that many are not willing to make. Everyone in this country should take a basic Economics course in order to understand half the stuff they want to complain about. The idiots in government don't understand. What makes a politician (who likely went to school for law) an expert on budgeting? God this country is going to hell and fast.
