How can an American non profit do work internationally

How can an American non profit do work internationally?
We have a foundation that is beginning to do humanitarian work in Africa and Indonesia, are there any legalities we have to go through.

You have to get permission from the governments of every country you are going to be working in to do the work you want to do -- both at the national and the local levels. You have to sit down with them face-to-face -- this can't be done via email or th ephone. These governments will prefer that you work with local partners, so you need to seek out local NGOs in each country that will partner with your organization directly. Each country will have different paperwork to complete and hoops to jump through, and requirements will also depend on the kind of work you want to do -- for instance, if you want to build schools, the governments will want assurances that you will hire local people for such work. They will also want your nonprofit to be fully and appropriately registered in the USA, with copies of paperwork to prove it. You will also need to set up bank accounts in each country where you want to work.
