Does anyone know of any pocket pc GPS software that will help me navigate while in Pekanbaru, Indonesia?
Nusa is about the closest, however, they do not have any maps available for my area. Do you think GPS tuner will work?

Please check this website http://www.mobtravel.net. Lots of nice mobile travel applications listed here. May be you can find the right GPS software for your device.

If your pocket PC has build in GPS, so you don't need GPS tuner, just software and maps. Based on my experiences, the maps itself is separated with the software. it doesn't matter if you are using pocket PC+GPS tuner or you are using GPS hand held (such as Garmin V or ex-Trex Vista CX) , the important thing is you have the map. Maybe you can try to contact PT. Kesuma and PT. Freeindo. Both of the company listed in yellow pages of business Jakarta. Event they have websites. You can ask them to find better solution. Those 2 companies is register as Garmin-GPS distributor. You should ensure first its compatibility if you are using pocket PC with the map and the software. It is quite expensive for the map

I'm sure you are not the only person in LA in this situation! Why not post an ad on Craigslist.org for other people from Indonesia who could help you practice.

Find a college and ask if they have any programs for foreign exchange students there. You may be able to find someone from Indonesia. Or someone from a local church may help you. I wish I could. My uncle lived much of his life in Indonesia and has now settled in Northern California (around 8 hrs away from you). But I could give you his email address and I'm sure he would be happy to write you. He speaks both your language and English. If you want to do that email me at bdexter@cwnet.com. And good luck! You are a very strong person to come here all alone, and you will be fine.

Where Does An American get a Visa to Stay in Indonesia for longer then 3months?
umm baiscly what i typed up there!! i need a visa i have no clue where to get it i got the paper work for my fiance to come to america on a fiance visa and it says i need to have seen her in person within the last 2years but i have not so i want to go up there and stay awhile with her but idk where to get a visa any1 help?

You need to acquire the visa from the Indonesian consulate office in the United States (Usually in New York or Washington, DC). You'll need to contact the consulate office of the specific country within Indonesia.
