How to volunteer in Indonesia

How to volunteer in Indonesia?
My mother and I are looking to volunteer in Indonesia/South East Asia/Africa this summer (end of July/beginning of August) for 2-3 weeks and have looked at many programs where you pay to volunteer. Has anyone ever done any of these programs-- any good ones? Is there a way to volunteer without paying for a program? We would specifically like to work with children, but are open to any and all opportunities. Any contacts out there?

"Is there a way to volunteer without paying for a program?" No organization is going to fly you over to Indonesia to volunteer for 2 - 3 weeks. Wouldn't it be so much more beneficial to local people to simply hire and train local people themselves to work with children? Here's how to find a list of NGOs in Indonesia: http://www.adb.org/NGOs/cso-sources-indonesia.asp What you could do is fly over to Indonesia and then ask to make site visits at various NGOs, finding out about their work, what they do, the challenges they face, etc., and then blog about your experience and encourage people to donate to help these NGOs (donating directly to the NGOs, or an international NGO that serves as an umbrella for these groups, NOT donating to you).
